Kenya’s Harambee Stars stranded at Airport over plane’s fee
Kenya’s national football team Harambee Stars’ players are stranded at Wilson airport in the country’s capital after the owner of the chartered plane they were to travel in refused to give the go-ahead for the plane’s departure demanding full payment.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the journey since morning. The flight that was to leave at 0700GMT failed to do so after the players staged a go slow demanding full payment of their dues from past matches.
The flight was rescheduled for 1330GMT, but again failed to take off after Skyward Company, the owners of the chartered plane that the players were to use, demanded that full payment is made before the plane is released.
Harambee stars are scheduled to play Cape Verde at 1900GMT tomorrow in the return leg of the second round of the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.
The Kenyans carry a slim 1-0 advantage over Cape Verde courtesy of Michael Olunga’s tenth minute strike in the first leg played in Nairobi.
