Kenya’s Ministry of Health on Thursday reported 650 new cases raising the national total to 28,754.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi confirmed that the capital, Nairobi, continued to lead in the daily figures as well as accounting for more than half of the total cases.

The counties that neighbor Nairobi (Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado) have been among those leading in reporting high daily cases, though their figures are not as high as those from Nairobi.

Mwangangi also said that four more people died from COVID-19 bringing total number of deaths from the virus in the country to 460.

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries surpassed 15,000 as 490 people recovered from the disease raising the nationwide total to 15,100.

Nearly 60 percent of Kenya’s recoveries have been from the home-based care program, according to the ministry’s director of health Dr. Patrick Amoth.

Mwangangi, however, noted that a section of the population continued to fail in their compliance with the set out health regulations putting the government’s response in jeopardy.

“While some parts in the country exhibit good adherence, more remains to be done at the level of personal responsibility,” Mwangangi said.
