Kenya’s double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet produced a record-breaking run in the 5km at the Cursa dels Nassos in Barcelona on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old completed the road race in 13 minutes and 54 seconds to improve her previous world record by 19 seconds.

That feat means she is also the first woman to run under 14 minutes over the distance on any surface, track, or road.

Victory in the Spanish city capped a nearly flawless year for Chebet, who won two gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m events at the 2024 Olympics.

The two-time world cross-country champion also set a new 10,000m world record at the Eugene Diamond League in May, before claiming her second Diamond League title in the 5,000m in September.
