Kenya’s Amina Mohamed endorsed for DG WTO by Moldovan candidate Tudor Ulianovschi
The candidate from the Republic of Moldova for the top post of World Trade Organization (WTO) Tudor Ulianovschi endorsed Kenya’s Amb. Amina Mohamed for the post of Director-General of the WTO.
This came following his exit from the race after the first round of phase 3 consultations with members. He announced on Twitter, “For the final round of @wto DG selection, two candidates will compete against each other to the benefit of the multilateral trade system. I am pleased to support my friend @AMB_A_Mohammed for the role of DG @wto. We have a similar experience (Ambassador&Minister), diplomacy, and character.”
Ulianovschi is an experienced diplomat with over 16 years of experience in diplomatic service. He previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva and the WTO.
Speaking to Mohamed on the phone about what this endorsement meant to her, she said that she is humbled and greatly honoured by Mr. Ulianovschi’s endorsement and was delighted that it came from a colleague and dear friend with whom they share common interests and agenda for reform and renewal of the WTO.
This endorsement is indeed a boost towards Mohamed’s campaign as members seeks to narrow down the candidates from 5 to 2 during consultations, which started on September 24 and end on October 6.
