Kenyan authorities are investigating an arson occurrence on a school in the western region of the country, with the school’s students suspected of doing so after being denied a chance to watch a Euro 2016 match on television.
According to local media, the trouble occurred on Saturday night, with students throwing stones while shouting “our rights”.
The Itierio Boys Secondary School’s students were reportedly not allowed to stay up to watch the Euro 2016 match between Portugal and Croatia, which was played at 2200 local time (1900GMT).
The students set fire to seven dormitories and also tried to damage property at a neighbouring girls’ school.
The school was shut down indefinitely.
The East African country’s Education Minister banned other schools from admitting students from schools that had arson occurrences.
