Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has convened a stakeholder meeting next week following a recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
On Wednesday, Kenya reported its highest caseload yet, with 1,018 confirmed cases, bringing the country’s total to 51,851.
The east African nation is one of only nine countries in Africa that have reported more than 50,000 COVID-19 infections.
“The session shall consider the evolution of the disease as well as the epidemiological models on how COVID-19 may propagate within our country over the months of November and December 2020,” reads a communique from President Kenyatta’s spokesperson.
Kenya relaxed its coronavirus restrictions in September and has since seen a steady rise in the number of cases.
According to the latest data from the World Health Organization, Kenya reported the second-highest number of new COVID-19 infections in Africa over the past week.
In the same period, Kenya also registered the third highest virus deaths in Africa, with the total death toll now at 950.
