World 800 meters record holder David Rudisha on Sunday sustained minor injuries after he was involved in a car accident in western Kenya.

Reports indicate that Rudisha’s car collided head-on with an oncoming bus near Keroka town on Sunday morning.

Local police confirmed the incident, saying further medical checks would be conducted on the Olympic champion.

“Rudisha is okay, but he is nursing minor injuries,” local Daily Nation newspaper quotes a friend of the runner.

Rudisha is a two-time 800 meters Olympic champion and a two-time World Champion, and is the world record holder in the race.

The 30-year-old burst into the world athletics scene in 2012 after putting in a dominant display to win the 800m race in the London Olympics.

The Kenyan has however not competed since 2017 IAAF Diamond League meeting in Shanghai.
