Kenyan MP’s son sentenced to death for robbery with violence
A Kenyan member of parliament’s son has been sentenced to death for violently robbing a tourist, Kenyan local media report.
Mafanikio Hassan Mwanyoha alias Fani Hussein Hassan and his co-accused Ali Hussein were convicted of robbing Polish tourist Peter Schadowsky of a bag, an LG mobile phone, a pair of spectacles, a company ID card and five credit cards, all valued at Sh14,625, on August 19, 2015 at Bougan Villa estate in Diani while armed with a knife.
Mafanikio is the son of Matuga MP Hassan Mwanyoha.
Mafanikio denied the charges but went on to ask the court for forgiveness.
The sentencing magistrate Cosmas Maundu said the sentence was justifiable, and gave the two 14 days to lodge an appeal.
“This court has no discretion on this matter and therefore the [death] sentence is mandatory. I therefore sentence each accused to death as prescribed by law,” said Maundu.
The two allegedly committed the offence at Diani police station despite knowing the items had been obtained ulawfully.
The MP and his family have distanced themselves from the acts of their son who has been in police cells since last August for failing to raise bond.
