Kenyan Chief Justice retires a year early
Kenya’s Chief justice Willy Mutunga retires from the judiciary a year early to avoid constitutional crisis during 2017 election year
CJ Mutunga who is now 69 years was on the brink of constitutional retirement age of 70. Mutunga has served for slightly more than five years after he was appointed Chief Justice in 2011 June.
Kenya’s Judicial Service Commission will advise on his replacement on Friday after he leaves office on Thursday.
Kenyans have taken to the social media to wish the CJ farewell on his retirement which coincides with his 69th birthday.
