Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will co-host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in February next year.

Africa’s football governing body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), confirmed the awarding of hosting rights on Thursday.

The confirmation means Kenya will make its debut at the tournament. Meanwhile, Uganda will be making its sixth appearance at the tournament, and Tanzania its third appearance.

The tournament will expand to 19 teams because the East Africa zone (CECAFA), which includes the three host countries, received an additional slot due to their automatic qualification as hosts.

“Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will participate in the Qualifiers and in addition to their automatic qualification as hosts, the team achieving the best result in the CECAFA qualifiers will also advance to the final tournament,” CAF said.

CAF also said it will confirm the host stadiums and training venues for the tournament in due course.

The first round of the qualifiers for the tournament will be played in October and November while the second round of qualifiers will be played in December.

The African Nations Championship is a biennial tournament for players playing in their national league competitions.
