In 2014, Africa bought an estimated 2 million new cars. With an estimated 22 million passenger vehicles on the continent and a burgeoning middle class, suddenly African countries are taking a stab at the vehicle manufacturing industry, but with one difference. Made in Africa, for Africa by Africa, can they achieve success?

In 2015, A tech company in Nigeria Innoson announced it had begun producing luxury SUV’s mini buses and trucks. Then came the announcement from Uganda of a breakthrough. They unveiled the Kiira EV, a hybrid electric car, initiated by students with government support not to be left out Kenya too joined the ranks. Introducing the Mobius, a rugged car, designed for the mass market with Africa’s roads in mind.
