Read < 1 minute

The number of people with access to the internet in Kenya has grown according to a new study by the Washington based Pew Research Centre. The research ranks Kenya second after South Africa based on the size of the population. With the help of some Internet access here is CCTV’s Robert Nagila with that story

The study conducted in 40 countries worldwide says 4 out of every 10 Kenyan adults use the Internet daily.
That number is much higher in South Africa where 42% of the adult population has internet access.
The study says in Kenya, a quarter of the adult population just over about ten million people own a smart phone.

“The mobile phone has revolutionized our ability to do everything, from mobile payments to media consumption and the numbers don’t lie.

According to the communications authority of kenya a fifth of the population is on social media.
Mobile subscriptions are almost at 90%. Half the population is online, while close to seven million people broadband services
are active and 99% of internet usage in Kenya, is mobile.

That growth has been partly driven by Mobile innovations, like the mobile payment platform, Mpesa, which allows you to pay for airline tickets to fuel to groceries, to new apps in health, agriculture and education.
