Kenya has reported 17 new cases of COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s new tally of confirmed cases to 320.

The new figures were announced by the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, who confirmed that all the new patients were Kenyans.

Dr. Mwangangi noted that the country’s new cases pointed to a worrying trend of local transmission, urging Kenyans to adhere to government guidelines in order to curb further spread of COVID-1.

“All of us have a potential risk of contracting the disease, and that is why we have come up with measures and guidelines to ensure that we are all able to control transmission of this disease. Being quarantined is neither a detention nor a punishment. Quarantine is meant to serve the greater public good in ensuring that we protect our country,” Dr Mwangangi said.

Kenya is one of 52 African countries that have reported cases of COVID-19. The continent has registered more than 23,000 cases and over 1,100 deaths.

Mwangangi noted that six more patients had recovered, bringing Kenya’s total number of successful recoveries to 89.
