Kenya officials arrest Tanzanian man carrying $1 million in gold

A Tanzanian national was arrested in Nairobi and gold worth $1 million intercepted by the Kenya Revenue Authority on Wednesday.

In a statement, the authority said it had seized 32,255.50 grams of gold bars  from the suspect as he tried to board a plane at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The suspect was also found with an invoice of $859,890.

According to an online website, the East African, the man was seized following an alert. He had arrived at the JKIA on February 16 and was heading to Dubai aboard Kenya Airways.

The East Africa Community provision prohibits the transiting of unwrought precious metals and stones across the region.

An investigation has been launched.
