With just a click of the mouse, anyone in the world will be able to access an online view of a park in Kenya. In a move to promote conservation, Save the Elephant together with Google has launched a street view of Samburu National Park, the first ever of its kind in the country.

Over 600 Elephants in Samburu National Park will be spotted among Zebras, Leopards and other wildlife in a route that goes through the 165 Kilometres of Samburu National Park.

The project was initiated in a move to create awareness of wildlife in support of ending the plight of elephants in Kenya and Africa.

Africa’s Elephants are in danger because of Ivory trade and loss of habitat. It is estimated that at least 100,000 elephants were killed for their ivory in Africa in the year 2010 to 2012 according to Save the Elephants.

The real-time panoramic view of the park enables online visitors to navigate and explore the parks. Visitors can also zoom into any parts of the park including the routes or the Samburu Manyattas (where the local community lives).

Samburu people have co-existed with the wildlife for many years; this initiative will show the world.

The focus of the street view will be on two elephant families known as the Harwoods and the spice family, differentiated by the shape of their tusks.

Apart from inspiring conservation the virtual tour of the park is expected to boost tourism in the country.
