The Kenyan Government on Wednesday appointed a new national spokesperson, Eric Kiraithe, a former police spokesperson.
Kiraithe was appointed to the position of National Government Spokesperson.
The announcement was made by Nzioka Waita, the deputy State House Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service.
In a statement to media, Waita said that government changes to its communications structure were “to ensure timely, consistent, coherent, and coordinated communication to the public on all matters relating to The National Government’s agenda”.
“Mr. Kiraithe, who has a long and distinguished history of public service, mainly in the security sector, will take up his new post immediately, moving from his current role as General Manager for Security Services at the Kenya Airports Authority. Mr. Kiraithe is a former National Police Service Spokesperson,” said Waita.
Waita added that the Office of the National Government Spokesperson would function from the State Department of Interior and Coordination of National Government.
The State House Spokesperson would remain Manoah Esipisu and would remain within the Executive Office of the President.
The government spokesperson position was last occupied by the now Machakos County governor Alfred Mutua, who then served in the Coalition government under President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Kiraithe’s replacement at Kenya Airports Authority security docket had not yet been named.
