Johannesburg;

Kenya head into this weekend’s Cape Town leg of the World Sevens Series eager to improve on their performance in Dubai, the Kenyans find themselves with a tough task ahead after being drawn in Pool B with France, Fiji and Japan, but coach Innocent Simiyu is confident his charges will produce a good showing in the Mother City…

The new man in charge of the Kenyan Sevens team, Innocent Simiyu believes that his team were able to take more positives away from the Dubai tournament than negatives.

“We’ve had a lot of positives in terms of how we played, we actually managed to closing the games, so for us we very keen in building up on those positives, in regards to how we moved the ball on a tactic space, and also we trying to manage the areas where we suffer a bit, being the kick off recession and the defence,” Simuyu said.

The 33-year- old has set out clear objectives for the Singapore Cup winners and is hoping for a consistent performance from his men.

“If you look at our season this year, we have a bench mark of 10 points per tournament, which we use to gauge our performance, so our performance in Dubai was below that, because we go 5 points, so we’ll be looking at trying to recover those points, so for us if we can get a shot at the main cup trophy will be very big plus for us,” he added.

The East Africans enjoy playing in Cape Town and see the tournament as a home fixture with the great support they enjoy over the two days of competition.

“Playing in Cape Town feels like playing at home, the weather is good, the sun, we all like the sun, its bright, it’s not chilly, there’s no rain, so for us it feels like playing at home and that’s what we love playing here,” a confident Simuyu said.
