The flight will be operated by the carrier’s low cost subsidiary Jambojet, boosting its connections across Africa.
Kenya Airways said the move was informed by increased demand by passengers, giving it an avenue to tap the Horn of Africa region.
Kenya Airways chief executive officer Sebastian Mikosz said that the daily flights would target Somali travelers, government and non-government organization officials as well as the growing number of entrepreneurs in the region seeking access to Somalia.
“The addition of this route to our network demonstrates our commitment to improving connectivity on the African continent, while creating new opportunities for corporate investors, traders and tourists”, Mikosz said.
The announcement of the flight comes barely a week after Ethiopian Airlines launched daily flights to Somalia.
Airlines have increasingly been eyeing opportunities in Somalia.
Before the Ethiopian Airlines flights, Turkish Airlines was the only other international carrier plying the route.
Somalia has relied on chartered flights to move people and goods.
