Kenya Airways cancels flights as pilots embark on a go-slow
Kenya Airways has cancelled an unspecified number of flights as pilots are refusing to work some shifts.
The reason for the go-slow isn’t immediately clear.
Kenya Airways said in a statement in Nairobi that the airline had, however, made alternative arrangements to take care of all passengers.
“We have cancelled and combined some flights to manage the situation and to ensure our affected guests are taken care of,” the airline said.
The union went on strike last year, demanding the exit of the then board chairperson and chief executive. The disruptions at the national carrier started over the weekend. The airline sank into the red four years ago when tourism slumped following a spate of terror attacks.
Last September, a massive brain drain left the technical department massively understaffed causing safety concerns. Months later, engineers downed tools citing poor pay, lack of promotions and unfavourable shifts.
