US rapper 50 Cent may be relocating to Africa if his recent Instagram post is anything to go by.
The hip hop artist posted a clip on Instagram showing a new bungalow in Africa just a few weeks after he filed for bankruptcy in the US.
Curtis James Jackson III, better known by the stage name 50 Cent filed for bankruptcy in July, a few days after a jury ruled that he had to pay £3.2 million to a woman who sued him over a leaked sex tape.
In May, the Forbes magazine estimated that the ‘Candy Shop’ hit singer’s net worth was $155m.
In this clip, 50 Cent does not mention where in Africa the new house is located or how he paid for its construction costs. A two-story, brown and white home is visible, surrounded by tropical trees. The video also shows workers sweeping floors and apparently engaging in various construction tasks. It goes on to pans across a moss-green swimming pool and expansive paved area.
The video was accompanied by a short caption in which he says he will host the ‘craziest house warming party ever’.
The post elicited different reactions from his Instagram followers, some condemning the move while others praised it. Others simply tried to make guesses on which country he could be building the house in. A few were just sarcastic about the construction with the bankruptcy case in mind.
The New York based entertainer said at the time for filing for bankruptcy that it was a ‘strategic business move’.
Chapter 11 of the US bankruptcy code gives time for a business to re-organise finances while protecting it from creditors’ demands.
Curtis James is a Grammy-award winning rapper and has business interests in clothes, boxing, drinks and mining.
The new home’s announcement comes even as the 40 year old rapper struggles to unload a multi-million dollar estate in Connecticut while countering $24million in lawsuits with a bankruptcy filing.
Whether he will move into the house after its completion remains to be seen. He has however gotten a lot of his fans and foes alike anticipating its completion.
