Irish rock star Bono, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote visit displaced people in Nigeria
Famous multi-billionaire businessman, lead musician of rock band U2, songwriter and Philanthropist Paul David Hewson popularly known as Bono, who is also an ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees was in Maiduguri on Sunday alongside Africa’s richest man, President of Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
The Borno state Governor, Hon. Kashim Shettima was delighted with Dangote’s devotion to aiding the troubled state, with bringing Bono to the state as part of his promise to use his connections world side to get support to rebuild Nigeria’s north eastern State ravished by Boko Haram militants reports This Day.
Hon. Shettima renamed a popular street in the state after the billionaire entrepreneur. In addition, an estate being built for the victims of insurgency will also be named after Dangote.
Aliko Dangote Village is an ongoing project with 6,000 one bedroom flats worth estimated 2 million Naira (approx. 6,339,160 US dollars) donated by the Dangote foundation will be built for the victims.
“I want to take this opportunity and on behalf of the good people of Borno State to extend our appreciation to Dangote Foundation. During the last Ramadan season, 230 trucks of assorted food items were donated to our people by Dangote…. Dangote Foundation has also donated the sum of N2 billion to our dear state for reconstruction and rehabilitation of our destroyed communities, in addition to N400 million donated to us by the same foundation to assist our people.” Said the Governor of Borno
The two men visited various Camps for the internally displaced people, the construction of the houses at Dangote Village for the IDPs along Bama road, and Rehabilitation house.
