Interest group wants Kenya to leave Commonwealth

Kenyan chapter of the Pan-African Movement is seeking to petition Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to pull out Kenya out of the British Commonwealth of Nations reports The Nation.

The lobby group claims that Kenya’s membership in the commonwealth membership threatens the sovereignty of the East African nation. Alleging that Britain is not giving Kenya the opportunities it deserves.

“Commonwealth is the expression of the will of a superior directed to the inferior, a kind of a master and a dog relationship, dictating local business, economic decisions and government,” the petition reads.

The Lobbyists allege that British corporations and multinationals do not reciprocate the benefits.

“There is no free movement of capital, movement of people and labour from Kenya to Britain…. Britain has been creating barriers for Kenyans wishing to enter Britain by imposing visa bans, and expensive and restrictive visa applications.” Said the group
