“I was referring to my daughter….I don’t have a girlfriend,” footballer says

Mohammed Anas is a Ghanaian footballer who plies his trade for South Africa’s Free State Stars who are in the country’s top tier.

Anas in a post-match interview after his team on Friday drew 2-2 with Ajax Cape Town on Friday thanked his wife and girlfriend.

The footballer had scored twice for his team and he was named Man of the Match but in his interview after the game, he accidentally paid tribute to his wife and his girlfriend before quickly realizing his error.

‘Thank you for this, I appreciate my fans. My wife and my girlfriend… I mean my wife, sorry.’ he said.

‘I’m so sorry… I love you so much, I love you so much from my heart!’

The footballer denies being unfaithful.

He told BBC that he was referring to his daughter when he said, “girlfriend” in the post-match interview.

“My family knows that I call my daughter my girlfriend. That’s what I was talking about. I don’t have a girlfriend,” he said.

He has said that he is not worried about his wife’s reaction.

His video in which he made the slip of the tongue has now gone viral and he says he is surprised how many people have watched the video.

“I’m famous now – people around the world know me,” the footballer said.

He added he has been with his wife, who is South African, for seven years.

“I love her so much. She’s given me two beautiful children. She is fine. She knows what kind of man I am so I am not worried,” he said.

The video has garnered more than 250,000 views on YouTube as well as other social media platforms.
