Huddersfield manager David Wagner quits after string of poor performances
David Wagner has quit his job as the manager of English football club Huddersfield Town after a string of poor performances that have left the side rooted at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Since their promotion into the top flight, Huddersfield under Wagner have only managed two wins in 22 games so far, drawing only five times and losing the other 15.
The West Yorkshire club announced the departure of Wagner on Monday, saying the decision was made mutually.
“I know the term ‘mutual consent’ is often a byword for the manager being sacked in professional football but this is a truly joint decision,” Huddersfield chairman, Dean Hoyle, said.
“David has a real, genuine love for this club and, like me, his foremost concern in our talks has been to establish what is best for Huddersfield Town.”
Hoyle hailed Wagner’s contribution to the club’s promotion to the Premier League for the first time in nearly 50 years.
“Under David’s management, we took this club to the highest position it has held in almost 50 years and created memories that will last forever,” he said. “His achievements will rightly put him up there in Huddersfield Town history alongside great names like Herbert Chapman and Mick Buxton; legendary managers who changed the face of this club.”
