Herschel Jantjies signs two-year contract extension with Western Province Rugby
Springbok scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies signed a two-year contract extension to remain with Western Province Rugby and the DHL Stormers until the end of 2022.
Jantjies has been hailed as one of the game’s rising stars following the completion of his first full season of Super Rugby with the DHL Stormers. He has scored 20 points in 16 Super Rugby appearances for the Stormers.
Jantjies has played for the DHL Western Province from Under-16 level through the age-groups and made his senior provincial debut in 2017.
The 23-year-old said he was looking to achieve greater success with both the Western Province and the DHL Stormers
“Growing up it was always a dream of mine to play for this team and I am very happy that I will be able to continue living that dream. I believe that with the players and coaches that we have here, we can all achieve great things together,” Jantjies said.
DHL Stormers Head Coach John Dobson said Jantjies made unbelievable progress in the last year to establish himself as one of the best scrumhalves in the world.
“Herschel is undoubtedly one of the best success stories at Western Province Rugby in the recent past. Apart from his considerable skill and commitment, he is exactly the type of character that we want to keep in our environment.
Jantjies enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2019, making a try-scoring international debut, winning the Rugby Championship and World Cup and being nominated for the World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year 2019 award.
