Gunmen dressed as priests killed three Nigerian soldiers in the oil-producing Niger Delta, military sources and residents have said.
The attack happened in the Nembe area in Bayelsa state.
According to reports, the soldiers were hunting the men down when they struck.
The Niger Delta region has been rocked by attacks by militants who demand that a larger share of the oil revenue be directed to the region.
The government has been in talks with the militants in a bid to end the numerous attacks on the oil facilities that have seen revenue drop hugely.
