
Gunman kills 39 in Turkey during New Year festivities
39 people have been killed and 69 other injured in a gun attack in a club in Turkey’s capital Istanbul during New Year festivities according to reports.
Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said in televised comments that of 21 victims, who have been identified so far, 16 are foreigners and five are Turks. The assailant is yet to be captured.
“The search for the terrorist continues… I hope (the assailant) will be captured quickly, God willing.” Said the Minister
Most of the party goers threw themselves in the Bosporus waterway in northwestern Turkey to save themselves from the gun attack according to NTV television.
“He entered the club and attacked innocent people who were there to celebrate the New Year. It was a cruel, cold-blooded act,” Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin said
