The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that they will be implementing a series of hefty fines and bans on the Guinean Football Federation following their AFCON U-17 scandal.
The Guinean U-17 national team were runners-up in the 2019 U-17, which took place in Tanzania, after losing to Cameroon 5-3 in the penalty shootouts.
However, it was revealed that they fielded two averaged players, in Aboubacar Conte and Keita Tidiane, during their games. As a consequence, the CAF Disciplinary Committee decided to ban the National Elephants from participating in the U-17 World Cup set to take place in Brazil next September. They will be replaced by Senegal, who finished third in their group with two points, four behind them.
Additionally, Guinea will be banned from participating in the next two editions of the U-17 AFCON and they are expected to return their medals within 21 days.
Further, both player involved in the incident and the person that falsified their documents will be banned for two years from any football-related activities. The Guinean Federation will also have to pay a fine worth $100,000 for falsifying official documents.
