Google to restrict fake news sites
Google search engine will restrict ads on sites which post false stories as a measure in dealing with the issue of misinformation online.
According to Sky news the technology company is working on a new policy to restrict lucrative adverts placed by fake news websites.
“Moving forward, we will restrict ad serving on pages that misrepresent, misstate, or conceal information about the publisher, the publisher’s content or the primary purpose of the web property.” Said Google spokeswoman
Google might have to give sites bigger incentives to offer accurate information or loose a hefty chunk of the revenue.
Facebook has also been under fire for fake news but founder Mark Zuckerberg defended its app saying 99 percent of what people see on Facebook is authentic.
