Ghana’s striker Andre Ayew joins London side West Ham for club record fee
English Premier League Club West Ham have forked a club record fee to land Ghana’s striker Andre Ayew from Swansea City.
The Hammers paid a $26.74 million fee to sign the 26-year-old on a three year deal with the option of an additional two years.
Ayew played a pivotal role in Swansea City’s campaign last season, scoring 12 goals in 34 starts as Francesco Guidolin’s side finished 12th in the table.
Ayew is now West Ham’s most expensive player in history, snatching the title from English striker Andy Caroll.
“I am very proud and happy to be at this magnificent club. I hope to make the people very happy here,” Ayew told West Ham’s website.
“The club have a lot of ambition and have a great manager (Slaven Bilic). They want to become a bigger club every year and with the new (Olympic) stadium and a new training ground, you can feel they are moving on to another level.
Ayew has made 67 appearances for Ghana, scoring 11 goals in the process.
