Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls on Tuesday announced the signing of Ghanaian striker Samuel Tetteh from Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg on loan for the 2020 season.

The move will be confirmed pending Tetteh’s receipt of his P-1 visa and international transfer clearance (ITC).

“Tetteh, 24, will occupy an international slot on New York’s roster through the end of the 2020 season with a club option to exercise a permanent transfer,” the club said in a statement.

Tetteh wrote on Twitter that he was excited to be joining the New York Red Bulls.

“I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates and the fans and hopefully we can achieve great things together.”

Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas welcomed the signing of Tetteh whom he described as a “very interesting attacking player”.

“He’s intelligent, he can create on his own and can stretch back lines with his speed. We know that Samuel has big potential and we are excited to get to work with him.”

Tetteh joined Salzburg in 2016 from West African Football Academy. He was loaned out and subsequently had successful spells at second division side F.C. Liefering followed by Austrian Bundesliga side LASK Linz.
