Ghana’s Ashanti queen honoured with elaborate four-day funeral
Thousands gathered in Ghana’s Kumasi this week to celebrate the life of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem the second.
The Ashanti queen died at the age of one hundred and 11 last year. She was the mother of the Asantehene — King of the Ashanti — an ancient empire that has reigned in Ghana for over 300 years.
The Ashanti Kingdom is one of Africa’s oldest monarchies, and still carries great influence in the country.
