Ghanaian security authorities have arrested three people in connection with a plan to usurp the presidency.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the government said the three had been arrested on Friday, and “several arms, explosive devices and ammunitions from locations in Accra and Bawaleshie near Dodowa” were retrieved.
The statement revealed that the three had been under surveillance for over one year.
It said the suspects had already started producing weapons for the task and set up a group known as Take Action Ghana (TAG), whose aim was to mobilise the youth for “nation-building”.

The suspects, one a soldier, are said to have tested some of their weapons at a beach in the capital, Accra, before they were arrested the following day.
The statement said the three suspects are undergoing interrogation as the investigations continue. The weapons that were retrieved have also been kept as evidence.
“The government of Ghana will also continue with efforts to provide the necessary logistics and motivation to the security agencies for intelligence gathering, capacity building and other opeations, to protect the country from terrorism, subversive activities and other violent crimes,” the statement said.
President Nana-Akufo Addo left the West African country for the U.S. on Thursday to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is also scheduled to attend to various other activities while in the U.S., where he is expected to stay until October 1.
