A German activist group on Sunday staged a mock funeral outside the Chancellor’s Office in Berlin, in protest against the European Union’s migrant policy. Several thousand demonstrators marched through downtown Berlin, carrying crosses and flowers.

Activists in rallied in front of Reichstag and dug at least one hundred graves to express their solidarity with asylum seekers, who have died trying to reach Europe after fleeing war and persecution in their home countries.

They say the move, which they have named “The Dead are Coming”, is a protest against the European migrant policies which they say continues to be the cause for the continuing migrant casualties, often deadly, taking place in the Mediterranean.

The protest, which took place a day after UN World Refugee Day, gathered at least 5,000 people, according to police estimates.
