Genzebe Dibaba Set a New World Record for the Women’s 1500 Metres

Monaco hosted the latest round of the 2015 Diamond League athletics on Friday.Plenty of high profile athletes were in attendance in a bid to continue their preparations for the World Athletics Championships in Beijing next month.

In the women’s 1500 metres, Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia cruised to victory in a new world record time of 3 minutes 50.08 seconds, beating the previous record of 3 minutes 50.46 seconds that belonged to Yunxia Qu and had stood for 22 years.

The 24-year-old Dibaba also crushed her own personal best set last week in Barcelona.The men’s 3000 metres also produced a new fastest time of the season.Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku of Kenya won the race in 7 minutes 35.13 seconds.Yenew Alamirew of Ethiopia was second while Isiah Kiplangat Koech took third place.
