French President Francois Hollande says France is at war after Friday’s attacks in Paris. He says he has asked the UN Security Council for a meeting on the fight against terrorism. Hollande made the remarks during a speech to French lawmakers on Monday.

Hollande said he will propose a bill to extend the state of emergency in France by three months. He said the government would tighten security measures, creating five thousand police jobs within two years. France will continue to support and strengthen its forces in fighting against ISIL.

The presidents of the United States, France and Russia would meet soon to discuss united operations. It was the first time in more than six years that a French president addressed both the Senate and the National Assembly. It is a procedure reserved for constitutional revisions and major presidential speeches.
