French President asks Developed countries to Contribute more Aid to Africa
French officials have welcomed US President Barack Obama’s pledge to push for a climate accord that includes legally binding agreements.
The French President Francois Hollande meanwhile has addressed one of the more divisive issues at the conference, how much aid developed countries should provide to developing ones to help them adapt to climate change and reduce their emissions.
Hollande on Tuesday held talks with African leaders on the sidelines of the climate change talks that are on-going in Paris.
Speaking after the meeting, the French president asked the developed countries to contribute more to Africa in aid, as they owe the continent an ecological debt.
“The world, and particularly the developed world, owes an ecological debt to the Africa. France wants to set an example and the finance destined to fighting climate change at a global level will switch from three to five billion euros annually,” Hollande said.
