Egypt has received three more Rafale fighter jets from France as a third batch of a $5.5 billion deal signed in February 2015.

According to Xinhua, Egypt seeks to upgrade its military forces amid the ongoing turmoil in Middle East region and growing conflicts in fellow Arab states including Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen and South Sudan.

“The new Rafale aircraft are a powerful addition to the capabilities of our air forces, as they possess high-level technical characteristics and combat systems, enabling them to perform tasks over large ranges,” army spokesman Tamer Mahmoud announced in an online statement.

The three warplanes makes the sum of Rafale that Egypt has received so far from France nine jet fighters as France works towards delivering 24 Rafale fighters to Egypt and a FREMM (Frégate Européenne Multi-Missions) multipurpose frigate  as agreed, al Ahram reports.

The first three jets arrived in Egypt in July 2015, the second batch arrived in January 2016 and the FREMM frigate, the Tahya Misr, was delivered in June 2015.
