Four Indian nationals have been detained in the Libyan Coastal city of Sirte.
Indian government Spokesman Vikas Swarup says the four were detained at a checkpoint on Friday, about 50 kilometers from Sirte, on Wednesday as they were returning India.
The spokesman did not clarify if the four had been detained by Libyan authorities or suspected Islamic state militants.
Local television stations say the four were abducted. Despite having a large Muslim population, India has often shunned Islamist causes, last December the government declared a ban on ISIL which some officials criticized the ban saying that it could endanger the lives of 39 men believed to be held by the group since June last year.
Various militias and Islamist factions have been battling in Libya since former strongman Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and killed in 2011.
Separately, in Iraq, a group of 39 Indian construction workers have been held captive by the Islamic State in Mosul for more than a year, despite attempts by the Indian government to secure their release.
