Jollof

If you’ve ever been to West Africa, you will know that jollof rice is big business.

The delicacy is a fundamental part of the region’s culture in many respects, and has for long been the reason for a dispute over which country’s jollof is the best.

Well, at a recent jollof festival in Lagos, Nigerians came out in their numbers to show off their skills.

Unlike white rice, which is often served separately, Jollof rice is a mixture of cocktail of stewed ingredients-for that tangy twist to tickle your taste buds.

During the Lagos festival, chefs brought their best games to prove that Nigeria’s jollof is indeed the best of all, a sentiment that was supported by the organizer of the event.

“Jollof rice is originally from SenaGambia, so from Senegal and Gambia, and it travelled down the coast of West Africa through Malian sailsmen. But Nigerians, I think, make the best Jollof, no shades to Ghana and all the others countries, but the Nigerian Jollof is the undisputed queen of all Jollofs,” Ozoz Sokoh, co-organizer of the Jollof Festival said.

Social media users from West Africa, particularly in Nigeria and Ghana, have often engaged in online battles to defend jollof from their countries.

Even so however, the jollof is a delicacy anyone visiting West Africa should ensure they get a taste of.
