Flights cancelled to Lamu after Al Shabaab attack

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has suspended all inbound and outbound flights to Lamu’s Manda airport until further notice following a botched dawn attack by Al- Shabaab militants.
Some of the airlines that have confirmed the cancellation of their flights include Fly540 and Fly Skyward Express.
The militants early Sunday morning launched an attack at the Manda airstrip which is adjacent to Camp Simba military base which hosts military personnel from both Kenya and U.S forces.
The airstrip has since also been closed until further notice.
At least four Al Shabaab militants were killed following the 5:30 am raid which, according to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Spokesman Paul Njuguna, was successfully repulsed.
“Arising from the unsuccessful breach a fire broke out affecting some of the fuel tanks located at the airstrip. The fire has been put under control and standard security procedures are now on-going,” he stated.
