Flash floods cause havoc in Johannesburg

South Africa’s biggest city and capital of Gauteng province, Johannesburg was in chaos on Wednesday afternoon after flash flood made its roads impassable

Seven people have been reported missing after their vehicles got washed away, one person believed to have drowned and hundreds in need of rescuing according to Johannesburg Metro Police Department

Flights were delayed and arrivals diverted at the city’s international airport OR Tambo, the airport’s buildings were also flooded.

The Johannesburg Zoo wall also collapsed in the mayhem caused by the water according to local media reports.

At least 80 vehicles are stuck in water as the heavy rains flooded the streets, homes and buildings in general.

The Jukskei River, one of the largest rivers in Johannesburg burst is one the major things the government is attending to, to control the flooding according to EWN. The South African Weather Service says parts of the country can expect above normal rainfall for the rest of the week
