Five people including four police officers were killed in an explosion in Boungou, located to the eastern region of Burkina Faso, in what is suspected to have been a jihadist attack.
The blast occurred on Friday, involving an improvised explosive device (IED).
The region has experienced a series of attacks attributed to extremist Islamist militants.
According to AFP, the police were providing escort to goldmine workers.
A similar attack killed five police officers in the area in August.
Both attacks occurred on the route between Boungou and Fada N’Gourma, one of the main towns in the country’s eastern region.
Since August, around 40 members of the security forces have been killed in IED attacks.
Jihadist attacks in the country have killed at least 230 people since 2015, with the north and east particularly affected. There have been three attacks in the capital Ouagadougou.
