Firm develops virtual reality experience in honor of Nelson Mandela
As South Africa and the World continue to celebrate the legacy of former President Nelson Mandela, a South African management consulting firm, IQbusiness, in collaboration with Liliesleaf and VictoryVR , have developed a Virtual Reality experience that allows users from across the globe to walk in the icon’s footsteps.
The virtual experience takes users through the journey of Mandela’s life, from his childhood to his triumph as the country’s first democratically-elected president.
The journey, created in virtual reality, enables users to spend time in the VR replica of his prison cell on Robben Island, and stand among the hills of Mandela’s childhood.
All one needs to take the journey is a virtual reality headset.
“The success has been us going out and showcasing the technology to people, so going out to corporates, going out to schools, seeing school children experience this, the journey itself has five components, the first 3 are activities you need to engage with and the last two are actual experiences, They are really profound experiences where people in the last two really understand what this journey is all about,” Adi Stephan, the head of learning, IQbusiness, says.
The world celebrated Nelson Mandela’s would-be centenary birthday on July 18, with a host of world leaders joining South Africans in Johannesburg for the event.
A day before the birthday, former US President Barack Obama delivered a lecture themed“Renewing the Mandela Legacy and Promoting Active Citizenship in a Changing World.”
