Read < 1 minute

A fire broke out in Kenya’s main airport on Monday afternoon, though no flight interruptions were reported.

A thick cloud of black smoke was seen rising from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) depot.

The cause of the fire has not yet been verified, though officials say it was contained soon after. No injuries have been reported.

In 2013, a huge fire broke out at the International Arrivals terminal of the airport, with reports indicating that Kenya Airways lost more than US$340,000. The incident left close to 500 passengers stranded.
