Final date of school reopening to depend on COVID-19 data:Algerian PM
Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad said on Monday that the final date for reopening school will be determined according to the data of COVID-19, the official APS news agency reported.
According to Djerad, the date will be related to the health status in the country, adding that “we do not want to risk the health of our children and our families at this point.”
In a statement, The Ministry of Health noted that Algeria on Monday reported 289 new COVID-19 cases and six new deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total infections to 46,653 and the death toll to 1,562
Meanwhile, 240 more patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 32,985, with 43 patients still in intensive care units.
The 2019-2020 school year in Algeria was suspended on March 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic. On June 15, the Ministry of National Education set Oct. 4 the date for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
