More details are emerging of a double suicide bombing at a camp for internally displaced people in Nigeria. At least 56 people were killed, most of them women and children, in the camp where they were seeking refuge from the Boko Haram insurgency.
Those displaced by Nigeria’s deadly Boko Haram insurgency, were queuing for rations, when two female suicide bombers detonated their explosives.
The attacks took place in a camp for around 50,000 internally displaced people in the northeast town of Dikwa, in Borno State- the centre of Boko Haram’s Islamist insurgency.
Military officials said a third suicide bomber refused to detonate her explosives when she realised her family were inside the camp. She surrendered to authorities and is under arrest.
No group has claimed responsibility but the attack bore the hallmarks of Boko Haram, which has frequently used female bombers and even children to hit targets.
The terror group’s 6-year insurgency in West Africa has killed around 20,000 and displaced 2 and a half million people.
