Facebook declares ‘Friends Day’ on It’s 12th Birthday
In 2004 Facebook the currently most used social media website was created. In October 28, 2003, Mark Zuckerberg with fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes, wrote a program called Facemash, while attending Harvard University as a sophomore (second year student). According to The Harvard Crimson, the site was comparable to Hot or Not and used “photos compiled from the online facebooks of nine houses, placing two next to each other at a time and asking users to choose the ‘hotter’ person”
12 years later and the then humble site has become a worldwide online village for people to connect with their friends and relatives. According to
Wikipedia , Face book currently has over 1.44 billion monthly active users.
Facebook today declared the day ‘Friends Day’. To celebrate, the company has provided users with a short video that, according to the company’s press release, is intended to “stitch together special moments”. It can be watched via the Newsfeed, or by clicking ‘Watch Yours’ underneath a shared Friends Day video.
