EU says looks forward to working with new UK Prime Minister
The European Union (EU) says it looks forward to working together with the new UK Prime Minister.
The united stance was announced on Friday by the President of the European Council Donald Tusk, who said the body was in favour of n organized Brexit.
“We want to avoid a disorderly Brexit and establish a future relationship that is as close as possible with the UK,” Tusk said.
“We are open for talks when it comes to the Declaration on the future UK-EU relations if the position of the United Kingdom were to evolve,” said Tusk, asserting that the Withdrawal Agreement is not open for renegotiation.
The 62-year-old also asked that the EU be informed on the state of planning for a no-deal scenario.
As Theresa May exits the scene, former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and his successor as foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt have emerged as the front runners in the race to become the next Prime Minister.
The two won the fifth and final vote among 313 Conservative MPs to chose a party leader to succeed May. The party leader will automatically become the next occupant at 10 Downing Street in July.
The next step in the race now heads to 160,000 grassroots Conservative Party members across the U.K, who will pick one of either Hunt or Johnson to become their new leader.
