Ethiopia’s first animation institute opens in Addis Ababa

Read < 1 minute

Ethiopia’ s first animation institute has opened in Addis Ababa. It’s driven by the passion of two brothers, who taught themselves animation 10 years ago.

When they first started implementing their passion in cartoon production the brothers say they took 2 years to produce a one and a half hour cartoon film.

However now they say they have learnt so much and they can produce a film in just two months.

In 2005, they released their first animated film in Amharic. Called ‘Washao’ – which means ‘The Cave’ – it tells the story of Ethiopia’s victory against the Italian invasion in 1896.

Here is their story
